Active Shooter Training

Student Affairs organized six active shooter workshops in 2016 in collaboration with UC Police Department, the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT ), Consultation and Response Team (CRT), Staff and Faculty Counseling, and Campus and Student Resilience.

Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training

Psychological First Aid Online

PFA online includes a 6-hour interactive course that puts the participant in the role of a provider in a post-disaster scene. This professionally-narrated course is for individuals new to disaster response who want to learn the core goals of PFA, as well as for seasoned practitioners who want a review. It features innovative activities, video demonstrations, and mentor tips from the nation’s trauma experts and survivors. PFA online also offers a Learning Community where participants can share about experiences using PFA in the field, receive guidance during times of disaster, and obtain additional resources and training.

CPR and First Aid Training

UCLA's CPR and First Aid Program is a student-run organization that provides CPR and First Aid training led by UCLA undergraduate instructors.
The American Red Cross offers a variety of safety education and training that can help you be prepared from emergencies, large and small. Training offered includes first aid, CPR and to swimming and life-guarding, HIV/AIDS education, and babysitter’s training. American Red Cross Preparedness programs help people lead safer and healthier lives.

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)

LAFD CERT

The city of Los Angeles provides this 17.5-hour training free of charge. CERT is a positive and realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations where citizens may initially be on their own and their actions can make a difference. In the CERT training, some of what you will learn to do is :

  • manage utilities and put out small fires,
  • provide basic medical aid,
  • search for and rescue victims safely,
  • work with other spontaneous volunteers to be effective in helping those around you.
